Just six months into 2025 and calls to ARC-Southeast’s Healthline have surged by 49% compared to the first six months of 2024, rising from 1,666 at this time last year to 2,487 this year. That’s at least 2,487 Southerners forced to navigate a web of abortion restrictions, financial barriers, and an average 200+ mile one-way journey just to access care.
These aren’t just numbers. These are parents, students, neighbors and people whose access to necessary reproductive healthcare has been stripped away by unjust policies and targeted dehumanization. Every day, we see firsthand how abortion bans directly target marginalized communities. In the face of the increased restrictions on care that have taken effect in 2025, we remain strong in our commitment to ensuring Southerners receive safe and compassionate care.
Meeting Urgent Needs in Real Time
To respond to this rising demand, ARC-Southeast has provided:
- Over $1.2 million in abortion funding pledged directly to clinics
- Over $99,000 in practical support covering rides, flights, lodging, and meals
- An average of $524 per caller toward abortion care
- An average of $750 per caller in travel and lodging support
This support helps remove immediate barriers to care, but it’s only one part of what reproductive justice requires!
Building a Network of Collective Care
Reproductive Justice doesn’t begin or end at the clinic door. ARC-Southeast builds collective power through community rooted programs that support holistic care:
- – At least 94 callers participated in Sow.Now.What, a confidential peer-to-peer support space for people who have had abortions
- – 600+ free emergency contraception kits were distributed through 25 Plan B Outposts across the entire Southeast
- – Our Safe & Sustained mutual aid fund distributed over $28,000 in basic needs relief and launched 10 guaranteed income grants
- – We trained 50 MonARCh volunteers to help callers feel safe and supported throughout their abortion care journey
